favoriteWhy we love house sitting

We have had numerous people housesit for us over the years whenever we traveled, to take care of the home, garden, plants, and pets. We understand how invaluable it was to have a trusted person watch over things while we were away. We love providing that same sense of security to others.

Why we want to housesit

After decades in academic research, I received a degree in Music Composition, and so am always looking to escape home to compose in a place that doesn't have the usual distractions. I grew up in CT, but currently live with my husband in Maryland. We are considering a move to CT in the future to be closer to friends and family, and so have been making occasional trips up north.

With our last child in college we are looking for cost-saving ways to see different parts of New England in order to determine which location will suit us best in the future. In addition, we would like to add a pup to our family, so pet sitting will help us with important decision-making. Our trips north are either myself alone, or together with my husband.

Our Experience

We have been homeowners since 1996, so know how to deal with all kinds of problems when they arise, which include interior and exterior issues. We have a small garden and plants, so can provide care and upkeep for that. We are very clean people, non-smokers (of anything), and quiet (well, I do bring my clarinet with me!). We are very respectful of other's properties. We have rented homes through VRBO and other home rental agencies here and in Europe (my husband is from Belgium!) for over 25 years and never had any issues, on either side. We aim to establish as good a reputation and record as house sitters, and so decided to get started with House Sitters America.

Additional benefits we provide

We are pet lovers! Between the two of us we have had dogs, cats, birds, fish and guinea pigs, and have hosted our daughter's Leopard Gecko. My husband currently works for a biomedical start-up, but prior to that we both worked as biomedical academic researchers (faculty), so have a great deal of experience providing specialized care for animals, including mice, rats, and ferrets. Our daughter and pup recently lived with us for a few months, and loved their pup we are considering becoming dog owners againn in the future. Caring for others' dogs will help us to understand different breeds. Our promise to you is that we will adhere to your needs and requests, and will get right onto any issue that arises.

I am comfortable caring for most reptiles (little hesitant handling snakes), chickens, ponies, horses, and other livestock, provided that the number of animals is small.

travelTravel plans

We like to travel to CT often in the summer to visit friends. We are also exploring places to retire to. We live in MD, so housesitting dates in MD are more flexible, and can be more spontaneous.
