We are two nerdy researcher-educators who like dogs, gardening, and traveling. Rutger is from the Netherlands. We met in Kenya where we do fieldwork and now we’re building a life in AZ.

We enjoy experiencing new ways of life and we care deeply about all animals and plants. We prefer connection and community support over transactions. House sitting gives us the chance to visit new places while helping others. We work remotely and travel over summer and enjoy the flexibility.

We currently own a home in central Phoenix where we work as professors at ASU. When we are not researching evolution or teaching we like hiking, coffee, books, music, growing food, film, and cooking. We’ve traveled a lot together and enjoy the adventure! As an archaeologist Katie is accustomed to camping and rural life. Rutger studies fossils and enjoys world building. Katie lived in FL, Washington, DC, and Boston. Rutger lived in the Netherlands, Las Cruces, and Minneapolis.

We have a 12 year old pupper Oliver who is calm and friendly. He is deaf and has arthritis and enjoys chewing his Kong toys and watching TV.
