Our home

Hi there!

We're going on a trip July 16th to July 29th, so would love to find a loving pet sitter(s) for our 2 medium-sized dogs (aged 9 and 4) who love cuddles, walks, playtime, and just chilling on the couch with you watching TV.

LOCATION:

Our home is in Idyllwild, what is considered one of California's 'hidden secret gems.' Due to it being in the mountains, it looks and feels more like a slice of Northern California was taken out and plopped right into Southern California!

Except you get the best of both worlds: Southern California sun and warmth but with the lack of intense heat down the mountain.

You are also just less than an hour's drive to Palm Springs, Palm desert, Joshua Tree, as well as 2-2.5 hours from San Diego and Los Angeles. Both are easy and fun day-trips we do often, and which the dogs enjoy as well.

The town of Idyllwild itself is artsy, super friendly, eclectic and uniquely Californian, with lots of cute and fun shops in the town center, as well as lots of great restaurants and eateries.

It's known and loved as one of California's (and America's) last and remaining authentic vibrant and charming small towns that has resisted the 'Walmartification'/ 'McDonaldsification' most other places have fallen to. Here you'll only find independent "Mom's & Pop's" shops, grocery stores, restaurants, cafes, etc. You will feel a bit like time traveling back to the 1960s-1980s in the best of ways.

Idyllwild is also considered a hiker's paradise, with lots of trails, including even a 'secret waterfall' not too far away. Additionally, it is situated along the famous PCT (Pacific Crest Trail), and therefore a very popular rest-spot for hikers from all over the country and world, who are hiking along the coast from Canada all the way to Mexico. Last but not least, it is also a known rock-climbing destination.

So if you're someone who loves dogs, the outdoors, nature, AND would like a very unique and special California experience that's a quiet retreat from the craziness of large city life -- but not too far away from it when you need/want it for daytrips/ errands or any 'big box stores' you might need -- then this is for you.

THE HOME:

Our home is a spacious and comfortable unique 2-floor cabin, with panoramic views of the most stunning sunsets that truly rival postcards. (the pic of the sunset featured was taken off our patio, and it's like that almost every night! :) )

Eating out on the patio is an especially enjoyable treat, whether to look out on the calm daytime trees during the mornings and afternoons, listening to the birds, watching our hummingbird visitors (and more great birdwatching, too!), and even just listening to the 'sound of silence'.

Having coffee/tea/wine while watching the sunset is a must. The stargazing at night is out of this world too, in addition to seeing all the lights below from the town of Hemet down the mountain. It truly looks like you're looking out of a plane window while landing.

OUR DOGS:

Our dogs are Dinx (9.5 yrs old) and Yenta (4.5 yrs-old), both Terrier mix rescues we got when they were puppies from local rescue organizations. They are both incredibly sweet, loving, and love each other as well as their people (whether us, or with sitters).

Both Goldie and I work from home, so they are used to having us around. They are fine when left alone for several hours, too, and are fully house-trained, don't chew anything, etc, but we mention this because they would be happiest with someone who will not leave them alone for a long time too frequently -- ie someone
with a 9-5 job in town, or someone who wants to take many day trips around the area without them -- in fact, they are great travelers, and happy coming along with you, should you wanna check out surrounding areas mentioned above (of course, be aware of weather, temperature for dogs in the desert, bring lots of water etc.)

Our pets

DogsDogs (2)
Dinx (aka Dinky, nearly 10) and Yenta (almost 5) are affectionate and fun dogs. They are grazers, and they love the companionship of having humans around who enjoy cuddling and playing. Yenta in particular enjoys catching her football, and Dinky enjoys finding the sunniest spot in the room.
